The Hachtor is one of the symbols of Rüthen and really unmistakable. It was built around the year 1300, from the Rüthener green sandstone typical of the area. The name may come from the fact that criminals were previously imprisoned on the upper floors (“Hafttor”). Incidentally, there used to be four city gates in Rüthen - this is the only one preserved.
