Electress Louise Henriette (1627-1667) commissioned her master builder J. G. Memhardt to plan and build a pleasure garden west of Oranienburg Palace. A Dutch-style complex was created with a summer house in the middle. At the instigation of Louise Henriette's son, Elector Friedrich III. (and first King of Prussia), its architect J. A. Nering designed the representative entrance portal in 1690 as access to the palace park.
