    Tips

    May 16, 2019

I can only advise against the use of this route, especially uphill and at rush hours. If there is a traffic jam on the A81, everything goes over the Bergheimer Steige. The road is so narrow that motorists have no chance to overtake. If they do, it will be dangerous for everyone involved.

My tip: A nice forest road leads parallel from Lindentäle (Hasenbrünnele) up to Solitude. Are you with the Renner on the way, drive over Gerlingen the panoramic road.

I have already cycled uphill several times. The descent down to Weilimdorf is also very nice. Unfortunately, there is a lot of traffic during rush hour and should be avoided.

I am racing cyclists and motorists and can only recommend to avoid this section uphill, especially in rush hour, because it leads to either dangerous overtaking maneuvers and / or too much displeasure of motorists due to the narrowness, which puts us racing cyclists in the bad light.

As an alternative, I can recommend the Schillerhöhe from Gerlingen, which runs a few kilometers west parallel. Continue through the (almost car-free) Krumbachtal, who is traveling in north-south direction.
