After the village life shifted more and more into the valley and the church on the hill had become too small, 1899 was begun with the new building. The basis for this was laid by the merchant and altvogt Nikolaus Maurer through the legacy of 60,000 marks, while the building material was delivered favorably by the local brick factory Blank. The brick church was built in neo-Gothic style according to the plans of the State Conservator Wilhelm F. Laur and on 21 June 1902 by Archbishop Dr. Thomas Nörber from Freiburg solemnly consecrated.
