Construction of the hall church, initially dedicated to Saint Nicholas, began at the instigation of Würzburg Cathedral Provost Kilian von Bibra with the construction of the three-aisled nave in 1488. The choir, the width of the nave, was built in 1505. The square tower was completed around 1530. Justus Jonas the Elder, a friend of Martin Luther, was pastor from 1553 to 1555.

During the tour of the church, visitors can climb the church tower to the viewing gallery, which offers a good view of Eisfeld and the surrounding hills.

The city church was closed in 1488–1530 as St. Nikolaus Church, after taxes in 1632 and reconstruction, the church is dedicated to the Trinity.
