The task was to invade Swabia and force Austria to make peace. The entire Rhine Army numbered 150,000 men. Of these, about 30,000 men in the army were subordinate to General Lecourbe. General Lecourbe decided to try to cross the Rhine at Paradies (Schlatt / TG) because the bank there was the cheapest for building bridges and proved to be successful.
