The general stand is on the hiking trail from Schlattingen to Etzwilen. This is the local name for the eastern tip of the Rodenberg.
On the historical background:
In the first half of 1799 the Austrians succeeded in driving the French out of southern Germany and the canton of Schaffhausen. Napoleon used the ceasefire in the winter of 1799/1800 to create a new, large Rhine army, which was set up along the left bank of the Rhine from Strasbourg to Constance. The task was to invade Swabia and force Austria to make peace. The entire Rhine Army numbered 150,000 men. Of these, about 30,000 men in the army were subordinate to General Lecourbe. General Lecourbe decided to try to cross the Rhine at Paradies (Schlatt / TG) because the bank there was the cheapest for building bridges and proved to be successful.
