A cycling and hiking trail leads directly over the dam wall of the dam. On the one hand you have a beautiful view of the reservoir and on the other hand over Astfeld and the valley behind it.

A visit to the dam is worthwhile in every season. Shortly before the Harzwasserwerke in Herzog-Juliushütte you can park the car in the hiking car park and take the short path to the dam. The Granetalsperre is impressive and idyllic in any weather.
