Since an extension at the beginning of the 16th century, the sacred building was called Jacob's Church, although the former name St. Mary's (original consecration "Our Lady") can be found in official documents well into the 17th century. In the early 17th century, the church was rebuilt in the margrave style under superintendent Johann Christoph Layritz.
During a city fire in 1823, the church burned down and the parish files were also burned. After the reconstruction, a service could be celebrated again for the first time on October 31, 1827, Reformation Day.
Extensive renovations took place in the 1950s and 1984/85. In 2010 the exterior facade of the church was renovated.

The town church of St. Jakobus is the Evangelical Lutheran town church and parish church of Weißenstadt.
The sacred building, which was dedicated as Marienkirche in the pre-Reformation period, was renamed “Jakobskirche” after an extension at the beginning of the 16th century. In the early 17th century the church was rebuilt in the margrave style.

A beautiful, bright margrave church. There is also a stamp for Jacob pilgrims.
