The artificially created, red marble lake is located in the middle of the Loferer Almenwelt. It is a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers in the Almwelt Lofer. Iron oxide causes the red color of the water. It is located at an altitude of 1,600 meters and is an ideal place to take a breather and rest. From here you have a great all-round view, for example of the Grubhörndl.

After reading the comments here I was super disappointed - nothing more than another artificial lake to store water for the snow cannons in the middle of an overdeveloped ski region. Efforts are obviously being made here to make the region/Loferer Alm attractive for hikers in summer too, but when the certificate says "always tried hard" everyone knows what that means. Nothing natural around the lake, the "red marble" is the reddish excavation - great marketing idea! All hiking trails are artificially created or you hike on the supply roads that make the (felt) 200 alpine pastures accessible by car. There are extra signs pointing to the hiking trails "off asphalted roads", but these are by no means halfway natural but created with the gravel/excavation from the various water reservoirs. If you really want to hike close to nature over hill and dale, you've come to the wrong place!
