In Saalfelden people have been making pilgrimages since the 16th century to the rock cave above Lichtenberg Castle, where they painted the image of St. George, patron saint of animals, worshiped. Below the cave, the hermitage was built on the rocks. For his personal edification, a small chapel is also set up in it. Even today, hikers still like to make a pilgrimage to the hermitage to admire the dreamlike panorama and the rock massif.
