Malente has a castle, could that be? – Then it hides well. In fact it does. The abandoned building on Kellerseestrasse is overgrown with blackberries and bushes in summer. Even in winter, a spacious park and ivy-covered trees hide the castle, which is actually a big hoax.

Eggersdorf Castle is nothing more than a converted farmer's cottage, which has become larger and more magnificent with every change of ownership since 1856 and, from an architectural point of view, only develops its special charm when it falls into disrepair.
Castle fantasies in Malente
All the renovations and additions do not seem like a well-planned, harmonious overall design. Rather, the extensions illustrate the owner's desire for grandeur in Malente. The Berliner Christian Wilhelm von Schiller, a merchant who was raised to the nobility, gave the building its current appearance. There was already an L from the farmhouse

At the turn of the century, when Holstein Switzerland was all the rage,
the rich and beautiful came and built summer houses on the lakes. Those who could built on Kellersee, because it was the most beautiful of all.Among them was a certain Mr. Eggersdorf from Berlin.Eggersdorf had achieved considerable wealth as a merchant
and had even been raised to the nobility.Perhaps that's why a simple villa didn't seem entirely befitting his status.Perhaps he was also a little eccentric. In any case, "Eggersdorf Castle" stood out. It was even more sophisticated than other retreats. More fairytale-like. More lavish. The 1907 building has been decaying for many decades. The garden has almost become wilderness again. But it's not difficult to imagine its former splendor. The grand staircase and the water features. The sculptures that populated the entire park. And white-clad summer visitors popping champagne corks to the music of shellac records.Kellersee is one of Malente's local lakes. It can be reached from the train station
via Janusallee, named after Johannes Janus, who opened the
"Hotel Holsteinische Schweiz" in 1890. The neologism soon became a selling point, and the entire region a place of longing for illustrious guests.Artists, intellectuals, citizens, and other free spirits loved the romantic landscape and the brightly lit Kellersee with its light bays and wooded shores.indernaehebleiben.de/kellersee

What a building, totally fascinating. These are higher on top, unfortunately no closer access is possible.
