The castle Breuberg was probably like the Veste Otzberg founded in 1200 by the imperial abbey Fulda under Abbot Markward I. this served to secure the monastery Höchst and the Fuldischen possessions in the Odenwald.
The castle is subdivided into the core castle in which stands the keep, which can be climbed as a lookout point, the outer bailey, the Johann Casimir building (part of the museum, the Föppelsbau and the Torbau.
Between the 15th and 16th century were due to the existing firearms changes to the castle made a kennel, fortifications and the so-called Schütt include.
In the castle there is today a so-called Burgschenke, where you can drink and eat, a youth hostel and the Breuburg Museum.
The Breuberg Museum is only open on guided tours.
