At the beginning there is this sign "Private road", but nothing about it being forbidden for pedestrians. And so we are pure. The path, which gets narrower and narrower, runs beautifully through the forest to a small fork, where according to the map we should be back on the road. However, our curiosity drives us further along the "non-existent path" and leads us to a modest bench on the waterfront, from where we can even see the new mansion of Gut Stendorf.
But the path leads even further and we follow it. It goes on and on, until we suddenly come out of the forest and come to a bathing spot. There is even some activity there. A couple is saying goodbye, a lady is doing her rounds and two village girls are having fun.
We resist the urge to get in the water too, we don't know if we might have to turn around and walk a decent distance.
No, we don't have to. It goes on and on, at the end through a field with tall grass and we end up in the middle of the village, just a little bit, a few hundred meters from the village square, from where we are allowed.
That's a real insider tip!

It's the small paths that make a hike more varied and adventurous.

The increasingly narrow path extends along a steeply sloping shore area of Lake Stendorf. The path seems quite overgrown and rustic at times, but it is actually a well-marked circular hiking trail. This worthwhile section always offers great views of the lake, of gnarled trees and roots, of the Gut Stendorf manor house and also offers a cozy rest area right on the shore along the way. But what I liked best was the patch of meadow that runs right along the young Schwentine.
