Hiking Highlight
The Wichernkapelle was built in 2015 directly on the Wuppertaler Nordbahntrasse.
It is openly accessible and offers space to pause in the middle of the hustle and bustle on the Nordbahntrasse adventure trail.Under professional supervision, long-term unemployed people in work opportunities carried out around 80 percent of the construction work within just six months. An achievement that everyone can be proud of - especially because an aesthetic and dignified building has been created from simple and plain materials.Source: a1medienbuero.de/die-wichernkapelle/#page-content

The theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern (1808-1881)
was a formative personality in the Protestant Church and a pioneer of the diaconal
Work, especially in the areas of child welfare and prison aid. He was one of the first to take a holistic view of people in need and thus expanded purely spiritual pastoral care to include a practical, helping dimension.
Wichernhaus Wuppertal e.V. is the direct successor to the "Barmer Aid Association" for prisoner welfare, which was founded in 1826. In 1977 the association received its current name as an expression of the Christian-socially committed work in the spirit of Wichern.
The diaconal sponsor is fully committed to this tradition even today - hence the name in honor of the model: "The Wichernkapelle".
