This resplendent granite monument is found in the beautiful Ashridge Estate. Standing at 33m (108ft) tall, from April to October you can actually climb it's 172 steps. It's dedicated rather grandly to the "the father of navigation" as it was built in 1832 in memory of Francis Edgerton, the third Duke of Bridgewater, famous for commissioning canals during the Industrial Revolution. On a clear day, you can over 30 miles across the surrounding countryside with views as far as Canary Wharf in central London.
