The village center forms the historical and social heart of this small wine-growing village. Around the town hall and the traditional bakehouse, the typical village structure unfolds, with narrow lanes, half-timbered houses, and views of the surrounding vineyards.

Eichelberg was first mentioned in 1275 and is probably a relatively recent expansion settlement, which was probably founded by Weiler, with which the place formed a common marker. The local rulers exercised until 1806 from the lords of Weiler. After the mediatization of the imperial knighthood, Weiler and Eichelberg were initially managed by a joint council for a few years. A dispute over sharing the costs of expanding the road from Willsbach via Affaltrach to Weiler, which was not continued to Eichelberg, but should have been co-financed by the citizens, then in 1827 prompted the separation of Weiler, which was awarded in 1828 and confirmed in 1830. In 1849 the Friedrichshof was added to the Eichelberger Marking. On May 1, 1972, the new community of Obersulm came into being through the merger of the communities of Affaltrach, Eichelberg, Eschenau, Weiler bei Weinsberg and Willsbach. On January 1, 1975, Sülzbach was incorporated.
