A great highlight, the Tutenberg, dedicated to the designer of the Altona public park, which was built between 1914 and 1927 on a forest site in Bahrenfeld. Ferdinand Tutenberg came from Braunschweig, where he was born in 1874 and died in 1956.
The Volkspark idea came up at the end of the 19th century. In the cities that are overpopulated by rural exodus and industrialization, many people live in a confined space under catastrophic hygienic and social conditions. "Air, sun and movement" is the motto of gardeners and urban planners, who, influenced by the lifestyle reform of the turn of the century, want to integrate places of relaxation and nature experience into the big city. Their goal is a public park for all layers of the population, which can be used at any time of the year.
The Tutenberg can be circled in several rings, on one level with a beautifully landscaped walkway. You can access the mountain from 4 directions, via which you can climb a number of steps. Very popular with joggers for cycling only partially suitable.
The 205-hectare Altonaer Volkspark is Hamburg's largest public park, the core area of which has been a listed building since September 2002.

The Tutenberg is a landmark of the Volkspark.
In the middle of a seemingly unspoilt area rises a strictly geometric round hill, which is named after the creator of the Volkspark Tutenberg.

In this area of the Altonaer Volkspark, rolling hills, clearings and gorges characterize the landscape and make the area appear almost unspoilt. But appearances are deceptive. Not nature, but man has shaped this topography through gravel and sand mining.

In the center of this forest area lies an octagonal mountain cone, which was once built as a memorial for the people of Altona who died in the First World War. The terraced hill, which is now called Tutenberg after its creator, can be climbed from four sides via steps up to the upper platform.

From here you once had a beautiful view of the city and could even see the distinctive water towers in Winterhude, Lokstedt or the Sternschanze. Today, the dense and tall trees prevent a wide view. Today the Tutenberg is particularly popular with joggers who climb the 50 steps as part of their sports exercises.

In the course of the refurbishment for the 100th anniversary of the Altonaer Volkspark, the Tutenberg with its linden arcades on the dome, the staircases and walls was completely renovated.

This detour from the Green Ring is just something for mountain bikers or people with light bikes. Otherwise connect below. That's fifty levels.
