He is remembered as one of the mountains of the Isonzo battles during the First World War. Obelisk erected on Monte Calvario in memory of the fallen soldiers of the battle of Podgora.

As of July 31, 2025, the gate barrier on the access road to the monuments is "unofficially open," allowing access to the first bend. After that, cycling to the obelisk is permitted.
The mountain itself is one of the contested Iosonzo areas of World War I. The obelisk, numerous gravestones, and memorial plaques bear witness to dramatic events.

As a memorial to the many dead, such cenotaphs or war memorials—like this "Monumento ai caduti" on Monte Calvario—remain very important to this day. "Now, Lord, you let your servant depart in peace, as you have said...", it says in the so-called "Hymn of Simeon" (Luke 2:29). However, the people commemorated here did not depart in peace, but became victims of war and tyranny.
