One of the greatest technical cultural monuments of the early Middle Ages: the Fossa Carolina (the Karlsgraben). Around the year 793, Charlemagne had a canal roughly 3000 m long excavated in order to be able to sail comfortably in the southeast of his empire. A water surface that is still 500 m long today and the subsequent earth walls testify to the first attempt to connect the Rhine, Main and Danube by a waterway. Along the former ditch there is a beautiful cycle path along which the watershed fountain is located.
