Visible from afar, erected on the summit of Rochlitzer Berges, the 27 meter high lookout tower is one of the landmarks of the city of Rochlitz. Built entirely from local red porphyry tuff, it is an ambassador for the unique volcanic rock of the mountain, which was created 275 million years ago, unique in its color, form and nature. To commemorate King Frederick Augustus II († 1854), who repeatedly visited the mountain forest in his lifetime, decided in 1855 a committee to build a memorial on the Rochlitzer Berg. The construction period was four years.
