As early as 1800 it was noted that there was a large atonement stone "outside the cemetery" on the northeast side on Alleenstrasse (excerpts from the Gustower church chronicle of Pastor K. E. C. Piper / file folder / local files Rügen / KHM Stralsund).

It is the Mordwange made of Swedish limestone, 2.7 m high, 0.17 m thick and 0.61 m wide and 0.85 m wide at the top from the year 1510 (cf. Haselberg 1897, 298; Haas 1938). Ohle and Baier (1963, 260) erroneously name granite. Another similar murder cheek is in Schaprode. So there are two such memorial stones on Rügen.
