Best Hikes to Layfelsen Tuff Quarry

Tips

  • The Layfelsen are mighty tuff stone walls that were created in the last century by the removal of tuff stone for baking ovens. The smooth rock faces rise up to 30 m in height. A beautiful path leads through the man-made rock landscape of the former quarry.

  • The residents of the village of Bell cut slabs out of the rocks of the tuff quarry, from which the individual oven bricks were hewn. The slabs were loaded onto lorries and shipped. Today the town of Mendig is the owner.
