The Old Harbor in Wismar is a great place to stroll, eat ice cream and watch ships. From here you can take harbor tours in the Bay of Wismar or board a ship to the island of Poel. More and more cruise ships are also docking in Wismar in the summer months. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the "Wissemara". The replica of the Poel cog from the 14th century is something special. You can visit the bulbous sailing ship while it is moored. The crew regularly sets off on sailing trips. "The foundation of Wismar, operated by traders, had the goal of creating a harbor here, and the protected location through the Wismar Bay made Wismar the ideal trading center.
Even today, the Old Harbor still hints at the splendor of the Hanseatic era, when Wismar was still one of the most powerful Hanseatic cities in Europe. Today the fishermen are in the Old Harbor; on the outskirts of the city. On the other side of the harbor, visitors dock with their yachts or ships of the White Fleet. Here you can stroll long, buy fish rolls straight from the cutter, go on excursions or just look at old ships.
