Built between 1026 and 1045, the castle of Mels was given as a fief by the count of Tyrol, representative of the emperor Conrad II, to the Waldsee family, who from here acquired the new predicate, and in 1275 Henry of Mels obtained be reinvested with this fiefdom by the patriarch. The last remnant of the castle is the ancient square tower, partially rebuilt following the damage suffered in the 1976 earthquakes.
