Ancient tower always open, in which you can enter and climb to the top to enjoy an excellent 360 degree view. To reach the tower it is necessary to make a slight flight of about ten meters

Well positioned on the central ridge above the village, it testifies to the strategic importance of the place, where from the 11th century there is news of a castle, in a script dating back to 1126. The Torate seems to have been inserted along the path of the internal wall to the castle, with obvious sighting and defensive purposes. With the construction of the new castle complex in Colloredo in 1302 by the family of Guglielmo di Waldsee, the castle of Mels underwent a slow and gradual abandonment, until its final demolition (1766). After the seismic events of 1976, a partial reconstruction of the same was carried out, up to a height of 15 meters, with the original stones. From its top, inside there is a spiral staircase that allows the climb, you can enjoy an enchanting panorama. The adjacent noble church of Sant’Andrea, which was consecrated in 1056, was also rebuilt in 2010. To get to the tower you need to climb about fifty steps.

It is worth climbing this tower open to the public to enjoy the 360° panorama of the foothills.

Built between 1026 and 1045, the castle of Mels was given as a fief by the count of Tyrol, representative of the emperor Conrad II, to the Waldsee family, who from here acquired the new predicate, and in 1275 Henry of Mels obtained be reinvested with this fiefdom by the patriarch. The last remnant of the castle is the ancient square tower, partially rebuilt following the damage suffered in the 1976 earthquakes.
