Keywords:
Named in 1471 as "Werder portzen" after the neighboring district of the same name;
typical Jülich design for a gate tower with a rectangular core tower (passage) and flanking half-shell towers;
destroyed and restored by several Erft floods, earthquakes, war and fires, the Jülich rule against the territory of "Kurköln" served as secure access to the "valley festivals" Münstereifel and the Erft Valley,
the upper gate area now houses a natural history museum.
