Sunday morning, 10 o'clock. A small group of (5) wildly determined cyclists stands on the market square in Lindlar and palavert. Harald gives final instructions: to Eichholz, then to Hohkeppel, there pick up 2 more participants (Ludwig and Cilly), to Schmitzhöhe, to Linde and back to Lindlar. It should be 30 km in total.
In bright sunshine, we started punctually at 13 clock at the station in Ründeroth. On the Wilhelmsbrücke, we first went to the other agger side. The guide reported that the bridge was built around 1860, but 10 years later was torn away by the flood. The Ründerother beautification club decided to build a new bridge. It was financially financed by 4 master craftsmen, all of whom were called Wilhelm.
Through a nature reserve we hiked on beautiful paths along the Agger first to Wiehlmünden with its magnificent dam pond full of water birds, then on to Osberghausen. Here the path became alpine: On the rock side (left) secured with a steel cable and on the other side almost vertically looking into an abyss, we cautiously groped our way over the extremely narrow and rocky path to Oesinghausen.
Here began a strenuous climb, which, however, gave us many beautiful views of the Aggertal. The effort was quite noticeable. At the top, the guide recommended a detour to a nice rest area, but we preferred a stack of wood directly on the way.
From now on, however, it went downhill, first on a very narrow forest path, then on a farm road, directly to the Haldyturm. The tower is dedicated to a district administrator named Haldy and was built by grateful Ründerother citizens around 1900. The fittesten among the SGVlern climbed the 18 meters on 93 steps and looked at Ründeroth and the Aggertal from the height.
The descent was done quickly. A few very bold ones even took the steep path through the vineyard. In the ice cream parlor Dolomiti we celebrated our success with a delicious sundae.
From the dam of the Wendefurth Dam we passed the wild cliffs of the Bodetales until we were able to cross the river in Neuwerk. Although the little town is teeming with resin witches, it has nothing to offer that could please the hungry or thirsty hiker.
On the other Bode side it went back - first to the dam of the neighboring Rappbode dam. Here the commercial had struck: Bunjee Jumping was offered as well as the Megazipline. In the latter, the brave user with 3 cables attached to a role that runs on a steel cable. At Los, the man plunges along the steel cable into the immense depth. Hanging horizontally, he speeds to the bottom at tremendous speed, until at a certain point he presses the brake and is caught at the destination station. All this he can film with a helmet camera.
Price of the feat: 40 euros + rent of the helmet camera. Dieter von den Thüringern and I might have actually tried it, but the launches were fully booked into the early evening.
Instead, walking across the longest suspension bridge of its kind in Europe did not have that special appeal.
At the wall of the Wendefurth barrier, one could condescend over ropes while pushing one's feet off the wall. In this way you could enjoy a feeling of weightlessness. But we have renounced that too.
We did not miss a delicious smoked trout in the floating fish restaurant on the lake when we were back at the start.
Together with the whole gang we went to Breitenstein, where we could eat surprisingly well in a quaint snack bar, the witch devil. After that, the roads parted ways: the more frugal half moved back over the mountains to Stolberg, the ambitious marched on to the Dreiherrenstein, where the states of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia (or the associated former principalities) meet. On very difficult to find paths we then found the way back to Stolberg.
It started with a wild and romantic path along the Bode. On partly stunning steep banks, it was just under 7 km down the river. Then we found the beer garden Königsruhe - as with all attractions in the area heavily frequented, but we found all space.
Actually, it should then go down to Thale and take the gondola to the Hexentanzplatz. In a touch of ambition, however, we decided to make the 200 vertical meters on narrow and very steep mountain trails on foot.
Upstairs there was the usual hype. After a short time we had to make our way back - this time over the ridges. Finally, we wanted to join a Schlossführumg in the evening. At 5pm we were back at the hotel.
