Here from the Rhönradweg on the Ulster you have a great view of one of the spoil tips from K + S AG. "A" because there are many of these white mountains to see here in the Werra region. The unusable components of the exposed rock are piled up here to form huge mountains. K + S stands for potash and salt, the substances that are extracted from the earth's interior at a depth of hundreds of meters.

From every angle, the Philippsthal potash mine's spoil heap is a fantastic photo opportunity. Depending on the depth and layer from which the spoil reaches the heap, it displays different colors. The eastern edge of the heap lies directly on the former border with the GDR. A former border security watchtower can also be seen there.
