Venzone is the stage destination of the 6th stage on the Alpe-Adria bike path. Just over 2,000 inhabitants live here at the entrance of the Iron Valley (Canale del Ferro). Already the Celts settled here Celts 500 BC. After that there were many gentlemen of different cultures in Venzone. But even in modern times was not much quieter. In 1976, the place was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake. Nevertheless, there are still some sights to discover. Particularly interesting is a stay in October, when the popular pumpkin festival takes place.

Very beautiful village, which was rebuilt after the heavy earthquake in May 1976 using the debris faithfully.

Venzone was completely rebuilt after the two earthquakes, which you don't see at first glance. It is a typical little Italian town. It is worth taking some time to stroll through the city and take in the flair. Even if the sun isn't shining, it's worth a stop.

Water fountain in the main place to refill your bottles. The train station is outside the city, just follow the "Alpe Adria Radweg" signs - the first is near the municipality building

The first documented urban nucleus of Venzone dates back to the Carolingian dominion (VIII-X century). Over the centuries the village was part of the Patriarchate of Aquileia, fell under the dominion of the Republic of Venice and only became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1866. The village we see today is the result of a meticulous reconstruction work: how it was and where it was. Venzone is the only example in the region of full use of the reconstruction method called "by anastylosis": an innovative method "conceived, studied and applied for the first time to an entire medieval village" right here in Venzone following the 1976 earthquake , and which has since been copied for the reconstruction of historic buildings damaged by catastrophic events. Venzone is also the only example of a medieval walled citadel in Friuli; the double wall belt, which still today surrounds the village, was erected in the 13th century. at the behest of Glizoio di Mels to protect the city.

Venzone, what more can you say. Resurrected after the great earthquake and rebuilt with incredible dedication, love and effort. A feast for the eyes! And not only for the eyes, also the palate can consider itself lucky;)
