    Hiking

    (Grade II listed building)

They are reputed to have served as a door lintel at some stage in their history.

The fragment of the Saxon preaching cross
Glebe Street is visible through the trees.

Identified by Charles Lynam and re-erected by him in mid 19th Century.

Tooled base and surrounding railings are early 19th Century, and the shaft itself, which is some 4ft high, is enriched with interlace and key patterns.

    Hiking

Here, the hiker or walker encounters only the remains of what must have been an impressive small sacred monument in ancient times long ago. However, the former cross is no longer recognizable as such, as only part of the longitudinal beam has apparently survived, while the two cross arms are not even remotely recognizable. Therefore, passersby are more likely to mistake it for the fragment of a column, which stands here at the edge of the lawn, separated by a railing.
