There is a production facility of K + S AG in Unterbreizbach, based in Kassel.

The Unterbreizbach location is one of four locations that have formed the Werra Verbund plant since 1997. The intraday geographic expansion of the Hattorf, Wintershall, Unterbreizbach and Merkers visitor mine is comparable to the urban area of Munich.

It is a new line from Vacha to Unterbreizbach built in 1952 in just 90 days. Due to the demarcation between Hesse and Thuringia, the connection of the Thuringian railway station Unterbreizbach via the Hessian Philippsthal was cut off, so that this connection from the south ran solely over the territory of the GDR. After reunification, this new line was initially obsolete, but the reactivation to relieve the existing line to Hattorf is now being discussed due to the increased freight traffic.
