Loess (loess) is a homogeneous, unlayered, light yellowish-gray sediment, which consists mainly of silt. Loess was mostly deposited by the wind, but mostly changed further after being deposited in the soil. Loess covers about ten percent of the earth's surface and is particularly common in the temperate climate zone. It was largely formed in the quaternary cold periods.
Loess is the starting substrate for the cheapest agricultural soil worldwide.
