This church is called Cathedral of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist in Przemyśl. That's a long time to say.

From the middle of the 12th century a Romanesque rotunda appeared; then added a Gothic cathedral, partially destroyed and replaced by a Baroque cathedral built in the years 1724-1744. In 1733 the roof collapsed and was rebuilt in 1744.

By visiting the church you will understand its entire eventful history.

Archcathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint. John the Baptist in Przemyśl is the oldest and most important of many temples in Przemyśl. It is located on Zamkowa Street, the road leading to the Przemyśl castle.

The construction of the current church began in 1460, on the site of the Romanesque rotunda of St. Nicholas, whose relics have been preserved to this day under the temple's presbytery. Therefore, the facility is located on the Romanesque Route.

The construction of this Gothic temple lasted 100 years until 1559, later a Renaissance chapel was added, and in the 18th century the entire cathedral was rebuilt, when, unfortunately, tragedy struck when the vault collapsed, destroying the furnishings. The rebuilt temple was given a Baroque character.

Today, the archcathedral in Przemyśl is associated with the cult of Our Lady Jackowa, Saint. Józef Pelczar and blessed Jan Balicki. The interior delights with its rich decor. Particularly noteworthy is the late-baroque Fredro chapel. Saint Cross.
