The town in the northeastern part of the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia lies just across the Austrian border. Tarvisio is a stopover on the Alpe-Adria Cycle Route. The town became famous for its market, the "Fetzenmarkt," as early as the 1950s. At that time, there was still a shortage of goods in Austria. Today, it is more often mountaineers who seek relaxation here. Or travelers on long-distance cycle routes who stop here and enjoy their first taste of the Italian way of life.
