The path is one of the most beautiful in the Harz. The water flows quietly (in some places even silently) next to you. The path is almost flat, which is a great opportunity to relax after the inclines. There are two stamps to get here (133 and 149) and interesting information about mining in the Harz Mountains. I've been here in winter, spring and summer and I'll be back in autumn.

The Dammgraben is part of the Upper Harz water shelf and was used to supply water to the Upper Harz mining industry. The path along the Graben is easy to walk, but is also popular with mountain bikers.

The Dammgraben not only runs above ground, it is also partly carried underground in so-called "water courses".

I just find it fascinating how well the trench has been preserved and that you can simply walk / flow with it

It's nice here - the quarry is pretty overgrown.

The Dammgraben is the longest man-made ditch in the Upper Harz.
Its original total length was about 25 km.

The dam was 25 km long, now it is due to shortening (underground sections) still about 19 km.

The path leads with a very small slope along the Oker. Along the way there are numerous information signs for mining at that time.

The Harz water shelf was formerly used to power pumps to pump groundwater out of mining pits and tunnels.

The path along the dike runs almost completely horizontally, because it naturally follows the water. After several climbing routes that was just relaxing, undemanding to walk. But in the long run the little adventures are missing.

The Grabenwege and especially the Dammgraben are uniquely beautiful hiking trails and something very special - there is hardly any such thing in other mountains.
