A large marshalling yard was constructed south of the city of Groningen in the years 1916-1920. The site is located between the centers of Haren, Glimmen and Onnen. To restore the connection between these villages, a large steel railway viaduct was built over the marshalling yard in 1920. The viaduct consists of two fixed lattice girder spans with rivet joints, supported by heavy square brick center pillars. The total span length of the viaduct is 75 meters. The railway viaduct is still in its original state, only the old-fashioned cobblestone pavement has been replaced by an asphalt layer. Part of the original cobblestone road can still be found on the south side of the bridge ramp. The bridge was repainted in May 2020. The viaduct is a national monument.

Indeed a nice piece of old railway bridge that is currently under maintenance. The bridge is completely surrounded by scaffolding. Definitely doable on the bike, you can easily pass under it on the good asphalt surface. The only difference is that the bridge is boarded up with wooden plates.

Beautiful nostalgic bridge. Lies is the prospect after the climb
