A nice facility that offers not only information but also a seat. I think this is not to be missed when passing by. Definitely worth a visit.

The stork care station in the Verden district is one of three approved care stations for white storks in Lower Saxony.

Their main concern is to nurse sick, injured or otherwise in need of care (e.g. orphaned nestlings) healthy, to release them back into the wild in late summer and then to enable them to fly to their winter quarters together with the wild stork population.

The stork care station is not a zoo in which the birds should stay permanently. Rather, it is a temporary home that is inhabited exclusively by permanently inactive white storks in the autumn and winter months.

The voluntary wild stork keepers commissioned by the state of Lower Saxony decide during their counts and controls of the nests on site whether care and supervision of the storks is necessary in the care station and, if necessary, give the injured or needy animals to the care of the station.

Many of the white storks cared for in the station return later to breed successfully in the Verden Weser and Allern lowlands. In addition to the habitat improvement measures, the stork care station thus makes an important contribution to supporting the white stork population in the region.
