Bike Touring Highlight
The deed of donation of the then still small castle Eltz am Elzbach was signed in 1157 by Rudolf von Eltz. The castle is hidden in a side valley of the Moselle on a 70 meter high rock and is surrounded on three sides by the Elzbach. The quiet location in the side valley gives the castle a beautiful natural setting. Their residential towers, trusses and bay windows are up to 35 meters high. The Eltzer Rüst and Schatzkammer houses gold and silversmith work, weapons, jewelery, porcelain, coins and ivory from 850 years of castle history. The castle offers even more sights, all of which can be explored in a guided tour.

The castle Eltz is a high castle from the 12th Century. It is completely preserved and for lovers of old castles, fortresses or fortifications a real feast for the eyes. The journey by bike from the Mosel is a bit difficult, but quite feasible for trained bikers.

I followed Moselkern from the signs to the Ringelsteiner Mühle. A very natural hiking trail to Letz Castle starts there. I rode a packed mountain bike. Was very nice, almost a mini trail. Despite panniers, I only had a few sliding / carrying passages. You have to climb a staircase to the castle.
The castle and the wheat beer in the beer garden are fantastic. :-)
