Hiking

The staircase on the north-west side of the Pope stone does not look like much, but it is a very comfortable and nice descent. The access from above is not that easy to see. I was really in a bucket and apparently too broken to take pictures. Therefore only a picture of the entry and looking back at the lower end.

Hiking

If you are looking for some peace and quiet on the Papststein and are sure-footed, we recommend the alternative western ascent. The entrance is somewhat hidden in the pine forest. No great skill is required for the climb. It only gets a little steeper at the upper end of the gorge.
