The Heimolen was built by Gilles Vanden Eynde. He paid no less than 2,000 guilders to the Duke of Arenberg for the 'use of the wind'. That has now been converted to around 100,000 euros. It took the Vanden Einde family 39 years to pay off the debt. Then they got rich quickly. From 1850 onwards they allowed others to grind and limited themselves to collecting rent. In 1884, miller Jan-Baptist Van Aelst came to Langdorp from Engsbergen (Tessenderlo) in Limburg to grind at the Heimolen. The foundation was immediately laid for a remarkable family tradition, because his great-grandson Walter Van Aelst – 'Therus of the mill' for the Langdorp residents – milled until the mill broke down in 1958 and the blades remained idle. The Heimolen was restored in the early 1970s. Yet by the mid-1990s, barely a quarter of a century later, he was in a sorry state. After the purchase by Natuurreservaten vzw, steps were immediately taken to restore the mill. Minor repairs ensured the stability of the mill, pending a thorough restoration. The restoration was completed in the spring of '99. Source: natuurpunt.be/departments/natuurpunt-aarschot/heimolen-langdorp

The Heimolen is a post mill from 1662 and is owned by Natuurpunt. What makes it special is that it has remained in the same place since its creation and has never been destroyed. The current structure of the Heimolen is almost completely original. The fact that the mill was never thoroughly renovated is evident from inscriptions in the mill, but also from various historical writings. Moreover, the mill itself betrays its origins: it is one of the very few windmills with a straight chapel roof - after 1700, curved chapel roofs were in vogue everywhere. De Heimolen is open all year round, every 2nd and 4th Sunday from 10am to 1pm.
Grinding is therefore carried out when there is wind.
During the summer months from May to October, the mill is also open on these Sundays in the afternoon from 1 pm to 5 pm.
The mill is then open, but not in operation.
