Located in the middle of the historic old town of Bodenwerder, the building was always at the point where the Weser could be crossed. This was done with ferries, ship bridges and bridges. In 1883 the first road bridge was built up the Weser. After that, the ferry house was only used as a residential building.

It is a two-storey building on a rectangular, slightly bent floor plan, due to the adaptation to the street layout that opens slightly towards the Weser. It was built in the first half of the 17th century. The basement is probably considerably older and was part of the historic city fortifications. The basement is made of quarry stone masonry and the upper floor was added later in half-timbered construction. The parapet area is filled with wooden panels. All panels are decorated with fitting-like ornaments.
