The history of Austerlitz goes back to 1804, when Auguste de Marmont, a general of Napoleon Bonaparte, gathered 18,000 men here, which corresponded to about half of his troops, and set up a camp called Camp d'Utrecht or Kamp van Utrecht. The warehouse soon attracted business people who found customers in the team.

In 1804, de Marmont had his troops erect an eye-catching pyramid-shaped monument that the population called the Marmontberg. Although it is located in the municipality of Woudenberg, it is now known as the Pyramid van Austerlitz as the symbol of the village.

When Marmont and his troops were later called away to other battlegrounds, some of the businessmen stayed and formed the nucleus of the village.

After Napoleon's victory in the Battle of Austerlitz on December 2, 1805 in Moravia, his brother Louis Bonaparte, who later became King of Holland, decided to give the village and pyramid the name Austerlitz. Louis intended to develop Austerlitz into a town in 1806, but rejected the plans, and Napoleon incorporated it into Zeist in 1812.

Austerlitz is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht, municipality of Zeist. The history of Austerlitz goes back to 1804, when Auguste de Marmont, general of Napoleon Bonaparte, gathered half of his troops here, about 18,000 men, in what was then called the Camp of Utrecht.
