An old quarry worth seeing along the way in the Haarberggrund am Pfingstbach. In the meantime, you run the risk of simply walking past unnoticed, as the path is increasingly covered by vegetation.
This quarry was cut so far into the mountain that you can get a cross-section of it and at the same time an insight into several epochs of hundreds of millions of years. This outcrop not only clearly shows the different layers of sediment, but also numerous tectonic folds and faults, which provide a very instructive explanation of the Erfurt fault zone.
In geology, a fault is a tectonic process that disrupts the original structure of a rock. As a rule, larger rock packages were pushed against each other.
