The source is in a small piece of no man's land, which is formed as a triangle by Ostwestfalendamm, Osnabrücker Straße and Carl-Severing-Straße. At the source there is a wooden platform from which the somewhat overgrown area can be viewed. Access is on Osnabrücker Straße, from where a pedestrian tunnel also leads to Brackwede train station.

At the back of Brackwede station, coming from the station, a path leads to the right along the meadow into a small forest. There is one of the Lutter springs: a round depression with a diameter of approx. 10 m, where the spring water penetrates upwards in small bubbles from the sandy bottom. Water from other sources enters through a pipe that emerges from under the embankment. It initially collects in a small reservoir. The alder grove all around contains a lot of dead wood.
