Today you will be informed at the small herb garden about the 1000-year history of the place and the Kumbd monastery. The foundations of the monastery run through the adjacent properties at the "monastery" (street name). On February 9, between 1011 and 1018, the construction of a chapel was approved. A monastery was probably founded at this chapel in 1183.
The monastery was obviously very popular because soon after 1300 the monasteries of St. Katharinen near Kreuznach and Maria Engelport in the Flaumbach valley near Treis-Karden were settled from Kumbd.
After the death of the last abbess Eva Brennerin von Löwenstein in 1573, the monastery was closed.
In 1629/30 major repairs were carried out and a new bell chair was built for the three bells, but shortly afterwards the former monastery buildings were destroyed in the course of the wars of the Thirty Years' War. In 1706 the church was only a ruin.Source: klosterkumbd.com/Geschichte/index.php
