Next to the small, open refuge there is a memorial stone dedicated to forest warden Gustav Kühner (district manager from 1948 to 1955). The information board was created by his (great) grandchildren and tells of the tragedy in which G. Kühner died:"During his forest inspection on September 13, 1955, Kerwe Tuesday, the forester and district manager passed a mountain slope 'Im Kleinen Fischberg'. Here was a carter with his horse moving logs. Mr. Kühner noticed that the driver was trapped between two oak trunks and immediately rushed to his aid. At that moment the chain of the team broke and the logs rumbled down the valley. The forester was seriously injured by the trunks. The carter ran to Gräfenhausen on foot to get help. However, by the time the helpers arrived at the scene of the accident, Mr. Kühner had already succumbed to his injuries. At the age of just 53, his willingness to help became fatal to him.”
