In August 1943, an English Halifax bomber crashed on the spot.All inmates were killed. At that time, Fetzelhofen only barely escaped a disaster, because if the plane had crashed over the district, significantly more people would probably have died. Today there is a memorial stone with the names of the soldiers and a plaque that reports on what happened at the site of the accident.
