    Tips

    June 1, 2020

Hikers and anyone interested can now safely walk down the path to the Hans Renner memorial stone on the Regenberg.
Where previously you had to climb down the steep, often slippery slope, you can now use a simple, stable and durable staircase if you want to go to the stone that reminds of the inventor of mat jumping.
The city has thus implemented a major concern of Dieter Weiß, who ensures that Hans Renner and his invention are not forgotten in Zella-Mehlis.
He had the idea for the memorial stone right at the point where mat jumping was first tried out in large groups at the end of the 1990s.
At that time, 20 meters of jumping mats were also newly installed.
Since then, Dieter Weiß has regularly cared for this stone, planted it and cleared it of garbage, also with the help of his former ski jumping comrades.
Now, of course, he is very happy about the new staircase and adds one more thing.
"I want to give money for a new bank, because you always sit in the damp on the old wooden one," he said at the "building inspection" with the mayor.
This enhances the small facility even more and invites hikers to an informative rest.
The memorial stone above the no longer used Regenbergschanze commemorates Hans Renner, the inventor of jumping mat jumping, who lived and trained in Zella-Mehlis.
August 9 would be his 97th birthday.
His invention made ski jumping training possible without snow and led to great successes of local athletes in international competitions.
It is still used worldwide today.
