In the area of the lower course from Wevelinghoven to the mouth of the Rhine, large sections of the Erft have been largely reassigned, so that the river course must be completely renovated. The remaining curvatures of the old Erft runs, which are no longer flooded with water, were filled in.
In total, around 150 km of new flood, drainage and irrigation ditches were created, 31 km of river course were regulated and 50 km of dyke and dams were built. 286 structures were built, including 13 massive flood locks, 5 massive and 30 wooden dam locks with the main function of regulating the water supply to the mills and in the event of flooding to the flood channel, 14 wooden irrigation locks, aqueducts and bridges.
