The detour to the castle ruins is definitely worth it. The former weir system is 630 meters above sea level and from here you have a great view of the five valleys in which the city has spread.

The castle was built around 1500 by the knight Hans von Rechberg. The castle complex was ignored for almost three centuries; excavations and restoration only began in 1957. Thanks to the courageous efforts of committed citizens, the facility is very well preserved.

The “Bergstüble” restaurant is now closed. But you can enjoy your break on the thick castle walls including a wonderful view of Schramberg.

Well worth it in any case, some well-preserved ruins, up and down are great singletrack with some violent slope. Time to start, because well visited. In the summer I would not visit them, as it is also accessible by car.

Really great viewpoint over Schramberg and generally a large facility. The small fountain offers ice-cold water to wash your hands and a few cooling splashes on the back of your neck after the climb, which has been crisp in the last few meters.

There is (on site) an audio guide (mp3 file for download) that guides you to 6 stations on the site and provides information about the history of the castle (duration almost 30 minutes including vocal performances)

Short hike with a steep incline, some stairs, a little impassable in places. Good shoes are recommended. The sea of rocks is impressive, the Hohenschramberg ruins are well worth seeing.

Hohenschramberg, also called Nippenburg, is the ruin of a spur castle on the Schlossberg in Schramberg in the district of Rottweil. The ruins Hohenschramberg is located on the approximately 640 m high southeast spur of the castle hill, which rises steeply in the Black Forest and northwest above the located in Schramberg confluence of Lauterbach in the Schiltach. The ruin is well worth seeing, as it is well preserved and very large. Preserved are parts of the western upstream bastion with upper court, the chapel tower, the middle and the back lock, the Roßstall, as well as foundations of the bath and Backhauses and further buildings on the east and north side.

The castle is worth seeing in every season! My tip: start hiking from the Schramberg bus station, follow the hiking signs in Geißhaldenstraße (parallel street north of the bus station) to the Lauterbach waterfalls (especially beautiful in winter and in spring after heavy rain), then basically the "medium-difficult hike" with 1:05 hours indicated follow opposite. But there are even nicer variations that I have to incorporate on occasion :-)

The ascent or descent from the valley town of St. Maria Church can be chosen via a demanding short or more comfortable route. Or slowly rising over the Erets Chapel. Or via Junghans industrial park. Many ways lead up, but there are already 200 meters in altitude:)
Great job as the castle is explained. An adventure for children to explore every corner.
May 2021: The restaurant is unfortunately still closed due to Corona. Otherwise very nice resting place.
