If you look closely, you can decipher the writing: On the longest bar it says: Half the length of the wooden gape; Canvas Elen Läng on the one below. This is followed by the inscriptions Barchat Elen Läng and Statt Werckschuch length. You can guess: The strips are dimensions. To be more precise, in terms of dimensions that only applied in Augsburg.

The 57-meter-high town hall is a secular building and is considered one of the most important Renaissance architecture north of the Alps and, together with the Perlach Tower, is the symbol of the city.

        The golden hall is stunning:
It is considered one of the highlights of Renaissance interior design in Germany. It gets its name from the rich gold jewelry that adorns its interior. Originally, the magnificent ceiling of the hall was hung from the wooden roof truss with 27 chains. Today it is attached to a steel stone ceiling. The ceiling is covered with gold leaf (231/2 carat). The Golden Hall is on the third floor of Augsburg Town Hall and is 14 meters high. In 1944 it was completely destroyed. After a total of 17 years of restoration, it was restored in 1996.
